The charter
How what is written here is checked
A local archive is worth as much as it can be checked. This page says by what criterion a source is chosen, which official sources must be cited, and shows the result of the internal checks recalculated now, as the page opens.
The rule
No date, no measurement, no name enters these pages with a single source. If the two do not agree the primary source prevails; if there is none, the disputed detail is not written.

Diagram
The path of a fact, before it goes on the page
Every date, measurement or name passes through here. There are three outcomes, and each one can be seen on the page: the fact written, the fact reduced to what the sources share, or nothing.

What the site rests on
What lies beneath every page
The figures below are not written by hand: they are counted now, as the page opens, on the files the site is built from. If a file changes, they change too.
The sources, by family
{{ famTitolo }}
Every source is recorded in Sources with the use made of it and its limit. Here they are grouped by who produces them: who holds the document, who printed it, who remembers it.

The material
How an archive document is made
Plans and diagrams in the collection, each with its record: author, provenance, licence. Below, a newsreel from the Archivio Storico Luce, published by the archive itself: it is the kind of period document that decides a date when sources do not agree.

{{ totFot }} photographs, and what they rest on
Every photograph has its record with author, provenance and licence.
From which period
Only photographs with a year or a range of years in their record.

The writing rules
Ten rules that do not bend
Ten writing rules. They apply to whoever writes here now and to whoever continues the work later, person or machine. They are not general principles: they are constraints on what can go on the page and in what form.

Corrections
How a correction goes in
Documented corrections and removal requests come through the Facebook page «San Siro e dintorni». Each one is checked against the sources before going in, and is applied on all pages at once.
Curated by «San Siro e dintorni», Facebook page. It is not a City website, it sells nothing, it carries no advertising.

What this page rests on
Every fact is checked against at least two independent sources and, where one exists, the official source.
Two independent sources
Dates, measurements and names go through at least two sources that do not copy each other. Where it exists, we go to the original: the deed, the archive, the body that owns it. What appears in only one place waits.
One version only
If two sources disagree, the original document prevails. If even that is not enough, only the part they agree on is written: the year, for example, instead of the day.
Updated every day
The press review and calendar are updated every day. Everything else changes when a new document turns up, and then it changes everywhere at once.
From the community
Many memories, family photographs and tips come from people who live here, writing to the Facebook page. They are published only if the sender agrees. How to take part: Community.
Everything traceable
Sources are listed above and on the page Sources, with archive, shelfmark and terms of use.
No interpretation passed off as fact
An approximate figure remains approximate, a project remains a project until the building site opens, and what does not add up stays out. The criterion is the one this page lists.
